Yesterday DetNews published a story about an ongoing car theft investigation in Detroit. Hidden towards the end of the article is this gem: “Police continued monitoring Nationwide (towing) and found “that stolen vehicles were recovered shockingly quickly, sometimes before they had even been reported stolen,” the city said.” But they didn’t come out and say what the logical conclusion to that fact is: THEY WERE STEALING THE VEHICLES. They being cops and tow yards. What I’ve been saying all along. When we talked to the FBI regarding our thefts the lead agent said, and I quote: “they aren’t that well organized.” I thought it was a bullshit statement to get me to back off then, and this just reenforces that idea.

Only one Highland Park (a city literally within Detroit) officer has been charged so far, no way he’s the only one involved.

There’s also a corruption case in the neighboring Macomb County about ill gotten contracts and embezzlements and one of the guys they caught is flipping on his “associates” who are also on the Nationwidtow-yard side. Could get interesting.

I sense a lot of suspensions with pay coming up.

... Detroit Police Commercial Auto Theft Unit arrested a car thief, who dropped his cellphone.   A sergeant found text messages to Louay Hussein, alerting him to where stolen vehicles were parked, the city claims.

“Although the text message confirmed many ... suspicions of Louay M. Hussein’s involvement in criminal activity, (police) concluded there was not enough to pursue criminal charges,”

Uh, why not?

After the black car was “recovered” I went on a rant about how “Officer Taylor” said it was only wheels then when I got it was stripped and how the cop asked me to use “their” shop. Next week 6 cops “suspended without pay” in regards to car thefts that were “unrelated to each other.” Fucking ridiculous.

I wonder if “without” pay is honest, too.

And think of the perks you’ll be funding forever.

I love my city, but one of the big reasons I think car theft in Midtown went up while theft in the hood went down in the same time frame is because the number of CCW holders in the hood skyrocketed. Twenty-one thousand permits issued in Wayne County in 2012 versus less than four thousand in 2004. Too much risk for all but the most violent or desperate.

Another reason car theft in the neighborhoods has gone down is you see a lot more GM vehicles in the hood versus Chrysler and Ford. Thieves don’t want to steal or carjack a car that can be tracked or disabled with a click of a mouse. That’s also why you don’t ever see highway chases involving GM vehicles. The cops can call OnStar and have them bring the car to a stop before it gets to that point.

This is also why I refuse to drive newer GM vehicles. I like my privacy.

DISCLAIMER: I work for GM. My opinions are my own and don’t reflect those of my employer, blah blah blah, you get the idea.
